Jeannette Jenson passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the age of 90 in her home, on Brookside Road for the past 68 years. She was a bright and beautiful resident of Independence, Ohio her whole life. The only daughter of James and Emily Hasman, she grew up with her older brother Jim on Chestnut Road. She was very proud of her brother. He was a WWII pilot, P47 Thunderbolt, 494 Fighter Squadron, 9th United States Army Air Force. She spent her life caring for her family and pursuing her many interests. She was a master of many crafts: knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, cross-stitch, etc. No challenge was out of reach. Her loved ones were proudly adorned with hand-knit masterpieces including socks. The hundreds of sweaters she bestowed on family and friends are tangible evidence of her artistic skills, generosity, and personnel warmth. Her cooking was superb. Holiday gatherings with Czechoslovakian favorites were over-the-top, and no one would turn down the everyday fine food. She delighted in producing a broad range of confections, as well. In her younger years, while still in school, she worked as a model for department stores in Cleveland and Columbus. This was the genesis of her lifelong love of fashion. Many will remember her affinity for Cadillac convertibles. She loved bowling several times a week and, of course, carried a high average. She was a vision skipping down the lanes at the Cleveland Athletic Club, with the pins flying. She loved watching sports and never missed the kids' football, basketball or track events. Her competitive spirit and vigorous brain were particularly well suited for bridge. Many hours were spent with friends around the card table. Later in life she took up Duplicate Bridge. She delighted in traveling around the country collecting Gold Points. She achieved "Life Master" ranking with ease. There was no problem finding a bridge partner to play with. Over the last 10 years, Jeannette took great pleasure attending monthly dinners at the Bohemian National Hall (Sokol). It became a regular event for many in the family. She took great pride in her Czech heritage. She loved the Cleveland Indians, truly a lifelong fan. She probably attended over 100 Ohio State football games and the 1964 NFL Championship Game when the Browns beat the Colts. After attending Ohio State University, in 1951, she married her High School sweetheart, local athletic legend and entrepreneur, Walter Klevay. They had four children: Barney, Ted, Jill and Tom. She is survived by her children, one stepchild (Jim Jenson), 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. All the kids had beautiful handmade knit sweaters and baby blankets. They all remember the Easter Bunny (Jeannette) passing out hand-made chocolates at the Rockwell Springs Trout Club. In 1977, Jeannette married Jon Jenson, internationally recognized metal forming trade association executive. She continued to love bowling and playing bridge. She opened and managed the Yarn Basket Shop for numerous years (only really good quality yarn, of course). Jon and Jeannette traveled the globe and delighted in each other's company for over 35 years. Jon passed away in 2012. Her smile, laughter, quick wit, generosity and love will always be remembered and missed by all. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the numerous home healthcare professionals from Home Instead enabling her to enjoy her pets and home until passing. Also, special thanks to the professionals from Hospice of the Western Reserve. Family will receive friends in The Vodrazka Funeral Home of Independence, 6505 Brecksville Rd., (Rt. 21, S. of Rockside), Sunday, May 23, 2021 from 2-5 p.m. (Face coverings required).
