Sandra Abookire

January 24, 1941 - April 9, 2022

SANDRA JEAN ABOOKIRE, (nee Hanna), passed away at age 81 on April 9, 2022 after a long illness. She was a loving wife and best friend of her husband Charles (Chuck) Abookire Jr. and is also survived by her beloved sons Chuck III (Jacki), David (Elsa), daughter Alisa (Mike Litzow), granddaughters Izabella and Skylar Abookire, grandsons Evan and Jayden Abookire and Elias and Eric Litzow. Sandy was born in Akron, Ohio on January 24, 1941 to Alice and George Hanna. She is predeceased by her parents and brothers Ray and Rick Hanna. She attended Kent State University, graduating with a B. A. degree in Education. Sandy was an active member of Alpha Gamma sorority, Cleveland Ballet, The Cleveland Orchestra Junior Committee, and the Junior League of Cleveland. She was an elementary school teacher. Sandy was active with the League Club of Naples, Florida where she graduated from Greater Naples Leadership. She enjoyed the cultural life of Cleveland, Ohio and Naples, Florida, especially ballet and classical music. Sandy attended St. George Orthodox Church in Akron as well as being an avid member of Trinity by the Cove Episcopal Church in Naples where she was known as "sweet Sandy." Sandy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who always believed in the best of people. Family will receive friends in THE VODRAZKA FUNERAL HOME OF INDEPENDENCE, 6505 BRECKSVILLE RD., (RT.21, S. OF ROCKSIDE), TUESDAY APRIL 19, 2022 FROM 4-8 PM. Funeral service Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity Cathedral, 2230 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, Oh 44115 (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Entombment to follow at Brooklyn Heights Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Cleveland Ballet, 23020 Miles Rd., Cleveland 44128.
